Starting Therapy Can Feel Overwhelming — You’re Not Alone.

Whether you’re struggling with insomnia, anxiety, racing thoughts, burnout, ADHD-related sleep difficulties, or emotional exhaustion, it’s normal to have questions before beginning therapy.

Below are answers to some of the most common questions about working with me, CBT-I therapy, telehealth sessions, and what to expect throughout the process.

FAQ SECTION

What is CBT-I?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia is an evidence-based treatment considered the gold standard for chronic insomnia. CBT-I helps identify and change the thoughts, behaviors, and sleep patterns that interfere with restful sleep.

Rather than relying solely on medication, CBT-I focuses on helping you build healthier, sustainable sleep habits that support long-term improvement.

Can CBT-I help anxiety-related sleep problems?

Yes. Anxiety and sleep are closely connected. Many people struggling with insomnia experience racing thoughts, nighttime worry, nervous system activation, or difficulty “shutting their brain off” at night.

CBT-I and anxiety-informed therapy can help reduce nighttime anxiety, improve relaxation, and create healthier sleep routines.

Do you work with ADHD-related sleep issues?

Absolutely. ADHD can significantly affect sleep through racing thoughts, inconsistent routines, overstimulation, hyperfocus, and difficulty winding down at night.

I work with adults experiencing ADHD-related sleep challenges while helping improve routines, sleep consistency, focus, and emotional regulation.

Can therapy help with burnout and emotional exhaustion?

Yes. Chronic stress, caregiving responsibilities, work demands, and emotional overwhelm can all contribute to sleep disruption and exhaustion.

Therapy can help you better understand stress patterns, create healthier boundaries, regulate your nervous system, and improve overall balance and rest.

Do you work with caregivers and people dealing with medical stress?

Yes. I provide support for adults navigating caregiving responsibilities, chronic illness, cancer-related stress, and emotional exhaustion connected to supporting others or managing medical challenges.

Many caregivers struggle with interrupted sleep, anxiety, guilt, and burnout while prioritizing everyone else’s needs. Therapy offers space for support, coping skills, and restoration.

Do you offer EMDR therapy?

I am currently starting training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy.

EMDR can help individuals process difficult experiences, reduce emotional distress, and improve nervous system regulation, particularly for trauma-related anxiety and sleep difficulties.

Is therapy offered in person or online?

All sessions are provided virtually through secure telehealth therapy for adults in Illinois.

Telehealth allows you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own home while maintaining flexibility and convenience.

Is telehealth therapy effective?

Yes. Research shows telehealth therapy can be highly effective for anxiety, insomnia, stress management, ADHD support, and many other mental health concerns.

Many clients appreciate being able to attend sessions in a familiar environment without the added stress of commuting.

How long are therapy sessions?

Most therapy sessions are approximately 50–60 minutes.

How long does CBT-I treatment usually take?

CBT-I is typically a short-term, structured treatment approach. Many clients begin noticing improvement within several weeks, although treatment length varies depending on individual needs and sleep patterns.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. I do not prescribe medication. Therapy focuses on evidence-based behavioral and psychological strategies to improve sleep, emotional wellness, and overall functioning.

What if I’m nervous to start therapy?

That’s completely normal.

Many people feel uncertain about reaching out for support, especially if they’ve been carrying stress, exhaustion, anxiety, or overwhelm for a long time. My goal is to create a warm, supportive, non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable moving at your own pace.
